Zoë Watkins is on the investigative track in SOC’S Journalism and Public Affairs master’s program, having graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University in December 2019 with a bBachelor’s degree in politics and international affairs and a minor in Spanish. As a staff writer for LRN Monthly, she wrote stories about the use of the N-word on her campus and the experiences of international students in the United States. Watkins also participated in the Politico Journalism Institute, where she pitched and wrote a story about environmental groups pushing House Democrats to stop President Trump’s trade deal. When the pandemic hit in March, she wrote a story about how COVID-19 impacted North Carolina teachers as they transitioned to remote teaching. Watkins also interned at the U.S. embassy in Madrid and was an au-pair for three summers in Bilbao and Castro Urdiales, Spain. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and connecting with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
